2025 NCRHA Futurity & Derby Photographer | Reining Horse Show in Madison, WI

This August, I had the honor of serving as the official photographer for the 2025 North Central Reining Horse Association (NCRHA) Futurity & Derby—a premier reining event that brought some of the best horses and riders in the region together for a week of unforgettable competition.

Although the show is usually held in St. Paul, Minnesota, construction on the Coliseum meant a change in scenery this year. The event relocated to the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin, offering new backdrops and fresh energy to an already exciting show.

Highlights from the Arena

Photographing this event meant being ringside for some of the most electric runs of the week—none more memorable than watching NRHA Six Million Dollar Rider Shawn Flarida pilot Meradas Shine Prize to a jaw-dropping 223 in the Level 4 Open Futurity, taking home the win. The intensity, control, and connection between horse and rider were something to behold—and even better to capture through my lens.

Special Portraits & Behind-the-Scenes Moments

While most of my time was focused on show photography, I also had the opportunity to create meaningful portraits during quieter moments. A favorite was photographing Ellie Swoboda’s senior portraits with her beloved mare, WWR BoomBoomBugatti. Between classes, we found a quiet space away from the action and created something beautiful. It was the perfect mix of celebrating youth, achievement, and the bond between horse and rider.

A Full Week of Reining, Community, and Memories

From early morning warmups to thrilling evening finals, I documented hundreds of moments that riders and families will treasure for years to come. The NCRHA team ran a seamless and well-organized show, and I’m grateful for the trust they placed in me to capture it all.
