An Accomplished Pair | Horse + Rider Session

A gorgeous dark buckskin coat, kind eyes, and a stellar build, Nelson is a complete package! When Kim asked me to capture images focused on the relationship between her and Nelson, I couldn’t wait to head to Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin to treat them both to a Horse and Rider Portrait Session.

Nelson is a highly decorated AQHA gelding registered under the name Hez Just Blowin’ Smoke. Among his many, many accomplishments, some of his more recent titles include IBHA World Champ & NSBA Champion Amateur Western Trail, IBHA Reserve World Champ Amateur English Showmanship, WBHA All Around Open, WBHA Reserve All Around Amateur, UMBHA All Around Amateur and IBHA Superior Amateur Hunter Under Saddle. Are you out of breath reading all those accomplishments, too?

While showing may result in pretty ribbons and gleaming trophies, the point of showing is ultimately to demonstrate the relationship between horse and rider; communication, discipline, and skill as a team are all tested and graded. With that in mind, it's easy to see why Nelson and Kim are so successful! Their relationship feels easy and natural and layered in a way all riders hope for with their mounts.

Do you show with your equine best friend? Decorated or just showing for fun, going off-property and demonstrating all the skills you work on takes guts and hard work. Let's do a portrait session to celebrate that!
