Big Shoes to Fill | Horse + Rider Session

Alena and her two horses, Adam and Remy, came to me about Horse and Rider portraits to celebrate their relationships and the roles they each play in their little unit. Of course I had to say yes, just look at those faces! Alena competes as a member of the Wisconsin Hunter Jumper Association with both her mounts. With a gorgeous Wisconsin sunset, the serene sounds of the woods and fields, and three models who were easy on the eyes — it was a beautiful day all around!

With Alena’s mom acting as the designated Professional Ear-Getter, we chatted about her show career and life with horses as a whole. I loved hearing stories from the show ring with her reliable partner at her side. He surely looked the part as the golden light highlighted the dapples in his black coat. He was happy to watch on with wise eyes and endless patience for our posing and arranging and ear-getting shenanigans. Alena looked so elegant at his side in a flowy white dress with gorgeous bell sleeves!

Alena’s up-and-coming show partner was so cute! With three white socks and a perfect blaze, I know he’ll be one to watch in the ring. Hearing her talk about this young gelding’s progress and her older gelding’s record was so exciting. There may be big shoes to fill as the classy bay grows in talent, but with Alena guiding him, we know he’ll do big things.

Every session is special to me, but this horse and rider photoshoot that was all about the passing of the torch is one I’ll always remember. What better way to celebrate the future of a new horse and the legacy of an older partner than with portraits? Let’s schedule yours soon!
