This summer, I had the privilege of photographing Jaksen at White River Ag in Ashland, WI. The driveways that wind through the property made the most picturesque backdrop, framed by trees and warm evening light.
The heart of this session was her mare Nova, but her husband Josh and their three dogs joined in to make it a true family story. With love, laughter, and a few wagging tails, every moment felt personal and uniquely theirs.
Bridal Portraits with Nova
One of the most unforgettable parts of this session was seeing Jaksen step into her wedding dress with Nova by her side. There’s something magical about a bride and her horse—the way Nova stood tall and calm felt like she knew exactly how important this was.
When Josh stepped in, the love between them shone. The simple moments—his arm around her, a kiss on her forehead—spoke louder than any words. It was timeless, heartfelt, and so authentically them.
Family Portraits on the Driveway
We couldn’t leave out their dogs! Each pup brought its own personality, from playful energy to steady companionship. Their dachshund held an extra-special role, as he was a wedding gift—a living reminder of the life they’ve built together.
With Josh holding the leashes, Jaksen cradling the little one, Nova standing tall, and the trees behind them, it became the perfect portrait of a country family.
Quiet Moments in the Field
As the sun dipped lower, we headed into the tall grass for quieter portraits. Jaksen climbed onto Nova bareback, resting across her mare with a soft smile. No posing was needed—just an unspoken bond between them. These are the kinds of moments that make equine sessions so meaningful: simple, heartfelt, and real.

This session with Jaksen reminded me why I love capturing the bond between horses, couples, and families. Every detail—from her wedding dress to the dachshund by her side—told the story of a life built on love, trust, and connection.
