Equestrian Senior Portraits in Waunakee, WI

Alli L.

At Copper Arrow Photography, I’m not one to let the weather stand between my clients and the best session ever—I’m from Wisconsin, and if you allow the weather to dictate your schedule too much, you’ll never get anything done! That being said, sometimes it does get pretty darn hot (or cold or windy…or any other weather phenomenon you can imagine), and we have to find creative ways to stay comfortable. Safety is of course always the top priority, but my client Ali was down to make the best of what ended up being one of the warmest days of the summer. I couldn’t wait to jump in headfirst!

Ali was as excited as I was for her photoshoot, and I was eager to get her the pictures she envisioned. As thrilled as she was to be leaving high school behind, Ali was nostalgic at moments throughout our session, which is a natural reaction for any young person about to embark on the next big adventure. And while a senior session is naturally a time to celebrate the senior, Ali wanted to involve her loved ones—and that included her beautiful horse, her sweet siblings, and her cute dog.

The day was spent on a private farm near Waunakee, Wisconsin, the sun blazing down on us brightly as we struggled to keep our cool and swatted away the persistent bugs that buzzed in our peripheral. But spending time with Ali and her siblings made it worth it. We had the best time, and I also enjoyed chatting with Ali’s mom and catching up with her friend Alexis, a previous client of mine.

Another highlight was, of course, capturing photos of Ali with her horse. Ali is disciplined in English riding, and it was amazing to hear about her journey with horses and how it led her to where she is now. Riding is an incredibly important part of Ali’s life, and she wanted to be sure to highlight this passion in her photos. I hope that Ali loves what we were able to come up with and I’m sure she agrees that it was worth persevering in the heat.

If you are a high schooler starting to plan for senior photographs, I encourage you to reach out right away! I want nothing more than to curate a session for you that celebrates the things in your life that make it unique. Whether that be including your furry friends, equestrian companions, or best friends and family, I want to remind you there are no rules for your senior photographs—and if there are, then let’s break them together!
