Opposites Attract with Sophia and her Mare and Gelding | Senior Session with a Horse

Senior Session with OTTB & AQHA horses in Wisconsin

As many horse people know, you can’t get much different in personalities than with a Quarter Horse and a Thoroughbred, especially one off the track! For those of you who haven’t heard this age-old story, Quarter Horses are known for their steady, dependable nature and level heads, while the ex-racehorse Thoroughbreds are, well, a bit *spicy* but no less lovable! Bring them both together for this equine-themed senior portrait session, and I had a blast seeing the little differences in action.

Sophia’s pair of opposites have found their perfect partners in each other and in Sophia, and I loved seeing them all interact and balance each other as one solid team! From the fire in Gunner the Quarter Horses’ eyes to the sleek power under Vada’s bay coat, and the rebellious pink streak in Sophia’s spunky hair, these three breathed life and brightness into their session! I could have spent all day following them around and seeing how the differences between them only bring them closer together. So much inspiration!

I loved how at home Sophia felt in the field of tall grass, whether she was in a breezy sundress, a formal gown, or jeans and a tee — the confidence she carried herself with is something I strive to get from everyone I work with. It can be daunting to get in front of the camera, but she and her two proud, powerful mounts blew me away. We all know there’s no more powerful feeling than being on the back of a horse, and making that feeling shine through in your session is my biggest mission. Do you want to capture how powerful you feel with your equine partners by your side? Let’s work together to make it happen!
